Muhammad Shah was made Raja of Skardu and Ahmad Shah with his other sons, wife and daughters, was deported to the fort of Jammu.

Gazetteer of India as well as Cunningham have mentioned that Ahmad Shah died in Lhasa. Local traditions supported by Dogra Historians relate that after the re conquest of Laddakh and suppression of Liberation Movement in Baltistan, he along with his family was sent to Kishtwar where he died. After his death his sons were granted Jagirs in Tral, Kashmir.

After Baltistan had been conquered and Ahmad Shah was deposed and deported to Jammu, his son Mohammad Shah, was made Raja. He died in or about 1850 and was succeeded by his son Ali Shah. A reign of terror was let loose on Baltis by the Dogras. As late as 1892, the position of Baltis was not better than that of slaves. Knight (1892) gives the following account of the condition of Baltis at that time 

“These poor Baltis, robbed by the tax farmers of their conquerors, hunted by Kanjuti robbers to be sold as slaved in Central Asia, dragged from their homes to do forced labor on the dreaded Gilgit Road, and murdered by their Suni neighbors, have hitherto dragged on but an insecure and harassed existence among their wild hills and valleys.
