Khan and Raja Rahim Khan. He sent Mirza Khan to Adam Khan in Kashmir, who in turn, sent him to Hindustan to languish in the Imperial prison. After securing the release of Babar and Yaqub, Shah Murad gave the kingdom of Khaplu to them.

In the war of succession, the last Balti post of Kharboo in Purik district (Kargil) had been captured by the Raja of Ladakh. Inorder to conquer back the fort, Murad Khan marched on Kharboo, laid siege to it and a bloody battle ensued in which numerous Laddakhi soldiers were killed, nine hundred were taken prisoners and only fifty escaped to Laddakh to relate to tale of defeat and humiliation.

After the conquest of Kharboo, Murad Khan invaded Saling and over-ran the country up to Kharkoo forcing Hatam Khan son of Rahim Khan to cede Kunsis which was annexed with Keris. In the meanwhile the news of death of Adam Khan reached him. He left for Delhi to pay homage to Emperor Shah Jahan. Honors were showered on him and Adam Khan’s ‘mansab’ (rank) was also bestowed on him. Regarding the grant of Jagir in favor of Shah Murad, Vigne also remarks that, Shamrad or Shah Murad, son of Ahmad Khan, was presented with a Jaghir in Kashmir, by the Mogul, and Ahmad Shah used to complain to me that he did not now enjoy the revenue from it. “He further says “The name of the first Ali Sher Khan, or Shah Murad, is still to be seen upon a mosque at Ladak”.

During this period Murad Khan married his daughter to the son of Raja Habib Khan of Gilgit. Within two or three years one of the sons of Habib Khan revolted against his father and sought the assistance of Shah Raees of Yasin. Raja Imam Quli Khan of Shigar offered to put down the revolt and a force was dispatched under his command. Imam Quli Khan conquered the Fort of Nomal. The Raja was captured and brought to Skardu where Shah Murad imprisoned him.

On the death of Raja Habib Khan, the son-in-law of Shah Murad ascended the throne of Gilgit but was assassinated by one Aki Khan. Shah Murad marched on Gilgit, conquered it and imprisoned Aki. After appointing one of his followers as Governor of Gilgit, Shah Murad returned to Skardu. No sooner had he reached Skardu than news was received that Bota and Chilis Khan had created trouble in Gilgit. When Shah Murad reached Gilgit with his Army Bota and Chilis Khan fled from there. After settling the affairs at Gilgit he returned to Skardu.
