TRANSLATION.
1. I
repent for not having taken the glacier water of my father land’s
Ganchhey stream when my brother Shah Behram Cho was ruling.
2. Now during the reign of
the cannibal (Man eater) Cho Abdal Khan, I do not get even the muddy
water in the land of Skardu.
3. I repent not to have
used the white wheat of my father land Hanjor Broq.
4. Now
in the days of Abda Khan, the man-eater, I do not get even meanest
food in the land of Skarcdu! O my brother’.
5. I
repent that I did not accept to be queen of Thorse Khar (fort) in my
father land.
6. O
my brother! Now in the days of Cho Abda Khan, man-eater, I do not
occupy a position of a maid-servant even in the palace of Skardu,
7. O
Blessed One ‘Your elder sister (herself) may lay down her life for
your sake, my Shah Behram Cho.
The response from Emperor
Jahangir to the entreaties of Adam Khan and Hassan was encouraging.
Zakaullah says, “Jahangir had a long wish to conquer Tibet. Under
the orders of the Emperor, Hashim Khan son of Qasim Khan Mir-Bahr,
Governor of Kashmir, collected a force of horse and foot and
zamindars. He tried his best to enter that country but except
bloodshed nothing was gained.” In the ‘Badshah Namah’42 of Abdul Hamid Lahori, the following remarks are found:-
“The late Emperor Jahangir long
entertained the design of conquering Tibet, and in the course of his
reign Hashim Khan son of Qasim Khan Mir-Bahr, Governor of Kashmir,
under the orders of the Emperor, invaded the country with a large
force of horse and foot and local zamindars. But although he entered
the country, and did his best, he met with no success and was
obliged to retreat with great loss and with much difficulty”.
In fact the Moghal force received a
curshing defeat at the hand of Abdal Khan near Suri in Kargil. After
the death of Jahangir, Emperor Shah Jahan, dispatched another army
for the conquest of Baltistan in 1046 A.H. (1636 A.D.) in” Badshah
Namah” we find a full description of the Moghal invasion of
Baltistan which is reproduced below:-
